Asset Library 2.0: Nested Folders, Drag-and-Drop, and an Image Performance Overhaul
By Brandvibes team
Six months ago we launched the Brand Asset Library — one organized home for every logo, photo, and brand element your team needs. You filled it, fast. Some libraries now hold hundreds of assets across dozens of folders, and you told us two things: it needs more structure, and it needs to be faster.
So we rebuilt the core. Asset Library 2.0 adds nested folders, drag-and-drop organization, and an image performance overhaul that makes the whole library feel instant. Watch the 90-second walkthrough above, or read on for the full breakdown.
Folders Within Folders
Your folders can now hold folders. Drill into any folder to see its subfolders and assets, with a breadcrumb trail — All assets, parent, current — that always shows where you are and gets you back in one click.
Every subfolder displays a featured cover image, pulled from the first image inside it, so you recognize the right set at a glance instead of reading folder names. Create a subfolder anywhere, rename it with a click, and nest as deep as your brand needs.
Best of all, it is fully backward compatible. Your existing flat folders render exactly as before. Nesting is stored as a simple parent reference, so there was no database migration and nothing to clean up.
Drag-and-Drop to Organize
Reorganizing used to mean opening a menu and picking a destination. Now you just grab an asset and drop it.
Drag any image card onto a subfolder card or a folder tab to move it there. The target highlights and shows a clear "Drop to move here" prompt while you drag. No menus, no dialogs — drag, drop, done.
A Serious Speed Boost
This is the big one. The Asset Library used to feel slow on large brands, and we found out exactly why.
"Every thumbnail was secretly the full-resolution file — sometimes close to a megabyte each."
The culprit was a single parameter in a URL. Our thumbnails appended a width to Supabase's object path, which silently ignores it and serves the original file. We switched to the dedicated image-transform endpoint, which actually resizes — and hands modern browsers an even smaller WebP automatically.
The result: thumbnails dropped from around 982 kilobytes to roughly 8 kilobytes each. Gen AI history images got the same fix. Every grid, list, and folder cover now requests a real thumbnail, lazy-loaded and decoded asynchronously, so nothing blocks the page.
The "All" View, Reimagined
The All tab no longer loads your entire library at once. It is now a flat, latest-first feed that loads twenty images at a time and streams in more as you scroll. Open a brand with two hundred assets and you see your newest work immediately, not a spinner.
Smoother, Smarter Uploads
Uploading got a 2026-grade upgrade. Image optimization now runs off the main thread in a Web Worker, so the interface stays responsive while large files are processed. Uploads run four at a time, and a live status tray shows every file moving from queued, to uploading, to done.
And because real photoshoots are big, we raised the limit from fifteen files to five hundred in a single drop.
Everything You Already Know, Just Better
Asset Library 2.0 is not a relearn. Ctrl+K search, tagging, bulk edit, favorites, grid and list views, one-click download, and MCP access to every asset all work exactly as before. We focused this release on the two things that matter most as your library grows: structure and speed.
